Technical writer is a professional having a set of unique abilities that allow:

Tackling totally unfamiliar subjects,
Communicating with programmers to find out technical details,

Universities don’t offer such discipline, that’s why technical writers are commonly graduates in IT with a good command of English.

Requirements:

Excellent English writing skills (IT-related subjects)
Good ability to explain complicated matters in a clear, logical, and concise manner
Knowledge of programming basics in theory
Ability to digest large amounts of new information quickly.

Would be an advantage:

Programming experience
Basic knowledge of 3D modeling software.

Responsibilities:

Develop documentation in English (texts, diagrams) for application developers.
Document classes of the 3D engine library (with developers’ assistance).

Create guides and tutorials, including video tutorials.
